Looking to the north and the Blanca massif made up of four 14 thousand foot peaks. Blanca is the 4th highest 14er in Colorado and one of the most impressive. Little Bear is on the left which despite its appearance is one of the toughest and most dangerous of all the 14ers.

The power station that powers this 2100 square foot home is made up of six 225 watt photo voltaic solar panels which push 1350 watts through a Maximum Power Point Tracking charge controller. Storing the superfluous charge of power are 8 L-16 batteries with a 19.5 KWH storage capability. 48 volts at 400 amp hours fill a sine wave inverter with 4400 watt 48 volt DC in and 120 volt and 240 volt AC out. This electrification provides more than enough power to keep a full size LG refrigerator / freezer running 24 / 7 / 365 , computers, televisions, internet access, washer, dryer, microwave, stove, oven, juicer, on demand hot water heater, lights, hair dryers etc. etc. power ready.

It also pulls water on demand from a 245 foot deep well utilizing a 1 and a half horse power submersible pump. This is why we have the 240 volt leg out of the inverter. The rest of the house runs on 120 volts. I installed this system March of 2012 and have recharged the batteries with a generator one time in 33 months. We had 6 days of snow and absolutely no sun for the only time since installation. I ran the generator for about 2 hours to restore the batteries to 100% state of charge. Living in southern Colorado provides 330 days of sunshine a year. (The perfect place for star power) If you like the southwest this is everything Taos is with the addition of four 14 thousand foot peaks in the front yard, another one 12 miles to the south and 5 more about 20 miles to the north..
